Pulse Note Pulse Note
Four cuts of pressure-system dubstep from the low-lit end of the room.
Rips returns on Sector 7 Sounds with a record that feels built for subs, fog, and half-seen faces. Cryptic Ass Whale EP moves in that classic 140 zone, but nothing here feels nostalgic for the sake of it. The drums stumble, swing, and snap in strange places. The bass doesn’t just hit, it lurks. Every track carries that useful DJ tension: weird enough to turn heads, functional enough to lock the floor.
“Faceoff” opens like a crooked march through wet concrete. “Donkin Donuts” tightens the screws with stop-start movement and angular fills. On the flip, “Thiccy Gervais” with Boofy brings noir pressure and icy half-step weight, before the title track drags the EP deeper into analogue murk.
Heavy, odd, and properly system-minded.
A record for the moment when the room stops chatting.
For fans of: dark 140, warped dubstep, pressure tools, bass-weight oddities, smoke-machine logic.
Best played: late, loud, and with the lights making bad decisions.
Facts checked against the Bandcamp and SoundCloud listings: released August 8, 2025 on Sector 7 Sounds, with tracks “Faceoff,” “Donkin Donuts,” “Thiccy Gervais” with Boofy, and “Cryptic Ass Whale.”
